My Thoughts: Coach Leach Suspension

Alright so sometime yesterday a huge story broke that Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach has been suspended for the Alamo Bowl. This decision was made by the university after hearing complaints of treatment of an injured player on Dec. 16th. From the second I heard about this it seemed fishy, so I hit up DoubleTNation and started doing my research. Turns out the injured player was Adam James, son of ESPN analyst Craig James, and the younger James was told to wait in a dark closet after sustaining a concussion a few days prior. Being an avid Texas Tech Football fan, it didn't surprise me that Leach did something unusual, but I was surprised maliciously isolate a player. This story is still developing, but I feel like the relationship with a major news outlet (James' daddy wit ESPN), forced Texas Tech to make a decision they might not have needed to make. I really don't see how any other players' "mistreatment" would have become a national story so fast. At this point I think Leach is being targeted by Craig James in a classic case of Daddy runs to the rescue. I woke up this morning to find many Tech faithful feel the same way, as a facebook group "I dislike Craig James" has already gained over 500 members.
My question to the James family is, would you rather your son be chillin in a dark room or practicing football after sustaining a serious head injury? That alone leads me to believe its a case of Ego on the part of the younger and older James men. I really don't understand why the James family is trying to destroy Leach's rep, but I bet its more than just about this concussion matter. Maybe Adam James thought he deserved more playing time, or maybe Craig James thought he could control the opinion of an entire University with his press pass. Either way, former Tech players have spoken out supporting Leach; none have said he treated them wrong. Even my boy Ryze has put down a song in support of Leach. But let's say that Leach has actually been an abusive coach to multiple players, and has held the program hostage for the last 8 years. If this was the case, I wouldn't be completely distraught. I think Ruffin is a capable coach, and has obviously helped Tech become more Defensive-minded over the last few years. Alot of us over at DoubleTNation have been calling it the Defensive revolution. Bottom Line: This whole thing isn't good for recruiting, but I'm confident the truth will come out and the James fam will never set foot in LBK again. Guns Up!!

Avatar Quick Review

Rankings Best out of 5

Visuals: 5
Storyline: 2.5
Soundtrack: 3
Lasting Appeal: 4

Summary: Visually, this movie is amazing. I suggest catching it in the theatres while you have the chance. I can only Imagine how dope it is in IMAX. Nothing in Pandora seems forced, and it's purty easy to get engulfed in the Jungle/Amazon atmosphere of the movie. Its simillar to alot of American Indian movies plot-wise, (i.e Dances with Wolves) but without the drama to be effective. There's a nice cameo from JP of the stoner classic Grandmas Boy also. This is easliy the most effective 3-D flick I've seen on the big screen. My biggest complaint is probably in the music department. I guess a big technical budget can leave you having to use the score from Enemy at the Gates. (that little trumpet cue). That being said, if this is any indication of where action and sci-fi movies are going, hold on to your hats. Nice job James Cameron

Cicero Mode 2.0 is here!!

Wudup peeps,
As 2009 comes to a close, its only right I present the newest installment of Cicero Mode.
Cicero Mode 2.0 is a batch of unreleased songs, freestyles, and remixes from the past year. As well as being a way to showcase some of the years collaborations, I think it's also some of my most honest music as an artist yet. 09 was a rough year for me. From dealing with the passing of my Father to really having to decide what my purpose is. Creating music has always been like therapy for me, and no year has that been more true than 2009. These songs are what I used to get up and find the strength to rededicate myself to my craft. As we roll into 2010, expect alot more material from your boy Cicero. For those of you that take a chance and download, hopefully it shows you a side of me you've never seen, or one you thought was gone forever.

Download Cicero Mode Free!!!

Thanks in advance

Music Monday: Cicero Mode 1.5 coming in November!

So it's November 2 and I've decided to go ahead and leak a few songs off of Cicero Mode 1.5. For the folks that remember, it's been a year since I dropped "Cicero Mode".

Rewind time to oct 21 2008

I've had alot of good & bad things happen in my life since then, and 1.5 is documentation of what I've been going through. This project is simmilar to the last in that its AAALLLL over the place. It's got freestyles, mashups, Dj sets, remixes, and original music from yours truly. Cicero Mode 1.5 will serve as a mixtape to promote my upcoming E.P Public Speaker. The tape will also have some re-released songs from the original Cicero Mode and whatnot. I'll try and break down the tracks and share stories about them here. Make sure u download the first installment in the margin over here--->.

"Last Beatmaker Alive"

This is a remake to Nas' classic "Last Real Nigga Alive", using the same dope beat. It works just like the Nas version, but it's my story instead.

"Cicero FlyLo Freestyle"

I can only claim the flow, the beat is from one of my Fav producers right now Flying Lotus.

Ill be posting some originals in the comming weeks so stay tuned!!

Music Monday: Shafiq Husayn En A-Free-Ka

Since hearing Sa-Ra's Hollywood Recordings, I've been a fan of the trio. When I heard Shafiq Husayn, 1/3 of the exprimental group, released a solo project; I was stoked to check it out. Shafiq Husayn en A-Free-Ka brings that Sa-ra feel, but on an even more instrumental level. Theres a few complete songs, but most are rhythmic drums laced with spaced-out synths and vocal add-libbs. Shafiq's booming voice is wrapped thoughout the album with either spoken word or short flows. From the first listen, I can hear the new direction Husayn wants to take hip hop arrangments.
He spoke a little on it in an Okayplayer interview.
Quincy (Jones) said, ‘hip hop mastered the beat, but we didn’t take it to the next level with arrangement,’” he says. “And it’s true. Out of all the musical forms of the 20th century, hip hop brought the beat to the forefront, in a way so that any musical style that comes forth now is going to be predicated on the standard that we set; the Marley Marls, the Pete Rocks, the J-Dillas, the ?uestloves. But the first person who goes all in with arrangement and changes it for real, that’s going to be the king.”

Stop by Okayplayer.com for the rest of the interview.
Here's one of my fav tracks "Le'Star"

N.E.R.D goes B.E.P. Adds female singer to the group

So Pharrel and Chad Hugo have added a new element to their band N.E.R.D.
Here's a pic of the newest member Rhea.

Havent really heard alot of her stuff untill now, but im sure like the Black Eyed Peas, the fellas want to add a female dimension to their music. Let's face it, teenage girls buy records. Hopefully they can still be progressive and a little more commercial too.

My Thoughts: Michael Crabtree Signs

Well today is a day some thought would never come. Today is the day Michael Crabtree signed with the San Francisco 49ers. I'm very glad to see Crabtree sign, despite the negativity that's surrounded him in the past few months. As a Tech Alum, this has been a bittersweet time. We went from having a great season, to seeing our best national prospect turn into a PR nightmare. Over that time there has been plenty of dissent from Red Raiders and Niners fans alilke. To all those folks that spent their mornings comming up with clever nicknames to belittle Crabtree, I say prepare to insert foot into mouth.

This holdout was one for the ages, and I think the media coverage turned fans quickly against the 22 year-old Crabtree. As the haterade continued to flow, it was quite clear to me how much publicity this would bring when he DID sign. Sure niner fans can contest that they don't need the spectacular wideout, but my guess is once the #15 jerseys start selling again, and Crabtree shows promise as the post-season approaches, most, if not ALL the naysayers will change their tune...

Ok, one more Crabtree mix..

True, ole dude should have signed a while back, but thats easy to say from the outside. If anyone reading this had an opportunity at 22 to make millions feel free to chime in here. I dunno about you, but at 22 I couldnt decide what cheap bar to go to on a Saturday night. I def think Crab had some snakes in his corner as far as negotiations, but one thing he knows how to do is ball. Now that all the formalities are out the way, he will be able to get to work with one of the most inspiring coaches in the League. Anyone who thinks Mike Singletary will let one "diva" receiver slow him down is an idiot. Just go back to last years benching of Vernon Davis, and compare it to his output this season.

Mike knows how to handle egos.

Crabtree will have an uphill climb, but the niners get a bye week after the Falcons this sunday, giving him more time to adapt. Oh yea and one last thing for the Niner nation out there; As mad as you are that he is just now starting, think about the pay-off in November and December. Crabtree is the ultimate X-factor for a playoff team, and guess what, that could be you. So shut up and send postive vibes the Rooks way, his time to shine is almost here...

My thoughts: Mike Leach Bans Twitter

So it was a crazy weekend to be a Red Raider. We witnessed our team take its 2nd loss on national T.V, in a row! If that wasn't enough bad media, Sunday we find out that our OL and team captain Brandon Carter Violated teams rules and is suspended indefinitely.
The story reveals that Carter made some questionable posts on his twitter page following the game. It's not fully known if this is the sole reason for his suspension, but today news leaks that Mike Leach has Banned Twitter for the Texas Tech Football team

This is really an interesting twist in this social media problem, I just hate my team was the first college to have to deal with it. Honestly we lost both our games fair and square, and I don't understand why players would feel the need to let anyone outside the locker room in on their close emotional feelings. Being an avid twitter user myself, I understand its importance for branding and promotion, but these guys are TEXAS TECH football players. They don't need to build their own brands, they signed their scholarships to be part of the Athletic Department. I find it hard to believe that Carter didn't think some media cockroach would be scouring pages for any stories they could find. In fact, we've already seen the fallouts in the NFL and NBA.

We all know Carter enjoys the limelight, but I think the time to shine is on the field, not from your computer. Leave that to the nonathletic, undersized, undergrads and bloggers like me... Carter is a beast and much needed leader, but if Leach feels he crossed the line, I agree.
Now lets shut up and get ready for New Mexico and BIG 12 Play!!!

First Run Review: Kid Cudi-Man on the Moon

Aight, so Cudi finally dropped his debut album today, I made sure to get this one in. Off top the packaging for the deluxe edition is purty dope. I'm expecting quite a bit from this record, and we'll see what happens. Remeber 5 is my highest score...

1. In my Dream
First track starts with a haunting percussive sequence as Kid Cudi comes in singing "I dont worry bout anything. You're in my dreams". Nice strings off top. Seems to drag on a bit though....until Common comes in with a nice narrative.
Score: 4
2. Soundtrack 2 my Life
Nice electronic drums and sharp handclaps get your head bobbin quick immediately. Cudi spit an introspective verse about his youth filled with emotions. Very big hook. 2nd v Cudi continues his melodic story. Interesting breakdown with reverse guitars
Score: 3.5
3. Simple As
"ABC" loops throughout with Cudi spittin a familiar melody on his verses. Common appears again to add to the story.
Score 3
4. Solo Dolo
A Haunting string pizzicato introduces this interesting track. I heard this earlier, but added string score is a nice touch. Cudi asks "Why must it feel so wrong, when I'm tryin to do right?"
If this is supposed to be a nightmare, I think it accomplishes it s goal.
Score 4
5. Heart of a Lion
Another I heard a live version of. Very nice drums as the song opens up to another Larger than Life hook from Cudder, before dropping back to simplicity. His verses are serving as extra instrumentation at this point, laced with introspective and inspirational sayings.
Score: 4.5
6. My World
A smooth piano and electric guitar start this slow banger. Cudi speaks on his past angst towards being overlooked. Another string laced hook, adding another dimension to the songs story.
Score 3
7. Day n Nite
Of course we all know this one. Really doesn't hold up to some of the other tracks, might just be cuz I've heard it so much.
Score 3.5
8. Sky might Fall
Another one I heard early from the Transformers campaign. Still a solid song. At this point you realize this is much more than a Rap album, either you embrace it or get tired of it. Really just depends on how much of this you personally like.
Score 3
9. Enter Galactic
Cudi picks the tempo up on this one and croons to the ladies. Decent production, feels kinda like an old Jamiroquai song, with a Daft Punk breakdown. A lil more Common
Score 2.75
10. Alive
Enough fun, as we're taken into another dark track courtesy of Ratatat. I like this beat , plus tha reverse guitar effect Ratatat is known for doesn't hurt. More of the same from cudi, mostly sang until the final verse, which is subpar. Overall I'm down tho...
Score3.5
11. Cudi Zone
This spacey beat serves as a plate for a quick Cudi flow bout his accomplishments. This serves as contrast to the high pitched hook. Nothing too new, coulda taken Dose of Dopeness here instead (haha!)
Score: 2.5
12. Make Her Say
Easily the most out of place track of the album. Gotta get those features in tho...
Score 3
13. Pursuit of Happyness
Electric guitar leads into a simplistic chord laden track. MGMT makes their apperance on the hook. A slow but smooth one.
Score 3
14. Hyyerr
Smooth was an understatement as this banger opens up with a nice southern drums and warm strings. Ohio native Chip the Ripper adds his vocals to this one. Cudi brings a nice verse here for the folks hatin on his flows. This ones for the cheifers out there.
Score 4
15. Up Up and Away
Acoustic guitar drives this upbeat song. Cudi talks about staying focused on his goals. Right when it seemed things were happy, Common comes back to end things with the hint of a sequel....
Score 3.3

Overall, this lived up to my expectations. I doubt any other album in the "hip-hop" genre will sound close to this in 09. Most of these songs lean on melodies and epic hooks that no rapper can provide consistently. By no means has Cudi mastered the art of flow or singing, but I think he does whats needed to make memorable songs. Production value is high, but replay value will be low for the general audience(no club bangers here). This is a solid debut that sets Kid Cudi appart from any one genre, now lets hope the masses can handle the moon man too.

Production 4.5
Concepts: 4
Lyrics:3

Overall: 4

My Thoughts on Kanye's newest antics

Alright, so the Internet is buzzing about the Kanye West up-stage act, during the MTV video choice awards...? (Is that name right? I'm really not sure...). Anyways that's part of my point. I quit watching that sh*t in like 4 years; plus football was on. N E Wayz, I haven't even watched the infamous video, but I can imagine what antics Ye pulls out. Since it's happened before, I can just source to the earlier VMA incident a few years ago. Keep in mind this is when Kanye vowed to boycott MTV all together! If you were like me at that point, you exclaimed 'F*ck Yea! MTV aint playin videos anymore anyways. You dont need em Kanye!'. That alone lets you know how sad it is that he's once again ranting at something he rightfully called set-up years ago. The answer to that is simple, PUBLICITY! As much as people hate to admit it, just having this polar discussion growing before our eyes all over social media let's you know how smart Kanye is.

Before the Ye haters jump down my throat, I'm not saying this was the right move by any means. Taylor Swift isn't in the same stratosphere as Beyonce yet, and on top of that, they're in completely different genres. BUT, factor in how fast this negative attention will turn into positive sales for Swift, and this actually might be a win-win. As much as Ye wanted it to seem like it was about B, it was all about him in the end. I feel like Mr. West might be feeling the affects of father time. As a new generation of musicians/tastemakers come to the forefront, he has to reach for ways to stay relevant. His big brother Jay-z might be feeling that too, but at least he puts it on a track and moves on... So I don't think there needs to be some huge battle between Pro-Ye and Anti-Ye camps. Just remember, dudes in the business of entertainment, and it seems to be working...

First Run Review: Jay-z Blueprint 3

So here's what I thought of BP3, track by track. Reviews are brief, and I'll let ya know if something grows on me. Highest score of course is a 5.
1. What we talkin about
Epic synths start the album off as Jay-z flows about his past and present problems. Hook is questionable to me, too anti-climactic.
Score :3.5
2. Thank You
Nice bass groove smooth trumpet samples. Jay is Jay. Bassline steals the show for me
Score: 2.5

3. D.O.A
Of course already heard this, production value is through the roof.
Score: 4
4. Run this town
Yea, yea. Epic anthem that builds up to the Ye verse (not as ill lyrically as some say)
Score: 3.75

5. Empire State of Mind
Quirky drum beat. Alicia come through with a powerful hook, you can almost feel the giant NY skyscrappers as she blows. Big ups on the Texas shout out! Alicia > Jigga on this one.
Score: 4

6. Real as it Gets
Was like, whos this n*gga talkin on tha intro? Oh.... its Jeezy. Sounds like a different mix than usual on Jeezys voice, and whats up wit tha naughty by nature shit on tha hook? Production-wise its another epic beat, filled with live strings, smooth guitar, and groovy bassline.
Score: 4

7. On to the Next One
Damn I love some Swizzy! Vocal sample with straightforward drums. I coulda done with a little more bass and a faster tempo. Jay-z lyrics didnt really grab me on this minimal beat. A lil dissapointed in Swizz here.
Score: 2.75

8. Off That
Timbo tha king! Intro is a damn fool. I'm feelin J's rhyme scheme on V1. Drizzy, not so much. Obama lines gettin a little redundant, we all saw the election Jigga. Just good to hear the new stuff timbalands got in the stable for 2010, he's bout to own....again.
Score: 4

9. Star is Born
Jay-z reflects over the players in the game from back when he started. Of course he shouts the two illest lyrcist IMO (Andre 3000, and Nas). Track hinges on piano line.
Score: 3.5

10. Venus vs Mars
Takes just a sec to know Timbo's back for another one. This time he brings some darker production. Sexy hook with a nice bridge
Score: 3

11. Already Home
Kid Cudi comes in with his signature melodic style on hook. Not his best work, I'm expecting that next week with Man on the Moon. Violin sample dominates along with strong 808. Chord progression is a little wierd, takes some getting used to. Jigga bragadocio as usual. "Do you already/ enough with the complaining Boo Hoo already" might be my fav line so far.
Score: 3.5

12. Hate
Jay and Ye trade battle lines accompained by vocal (autotune?) line. Slow deliberate beat
Score: 3.2

13. Reminder
Your head automatically falls into the bounce Timbo provides. K Briscoe takes a stab at a sub-par hook. Jay's lyrics steal the show.
Score: 3.7

14. So Ambitous
Pharrel familiar falsetto sets up this minimal beat. The drum fill is nicely aided by spanish horn stabs. My fav subject matter on this one.
Score: 3.2

15. Forever Young ft Mr Hudson
Slow synth chords serve as the prelude to the finale. Mr Hudson recognizable voice handles the chorus as Jay relaxesthe listener with a laid back flow. Feels like a tears for fears song to me. Track ends abruptly to my surprise....Too bad
Score: 3.4

Well the album definately has high production value, but what do you expect for the man at this point? Although theres some interesting attempts here, I never really felt like Jay was out of his comfort zone, making for a uniform sound lyrically from him. I think Timbo has the best contributions to the album,. I can't help but wish Jay would go back to the American Gangster formula, using his enormous pull and resources to make concept albums. That way he doesnt have to try and stay relevant, but only paint a picture for the listener to explore. Well that's not BP3, so I guess ill keep waiting.

Production: 4.5
Concept: 2
Lyrics: 3.75
Overall 3.5

How was your wknd?

So Labor day is over and everybodys back to the grizzy. Due to a double up of weddings, I stayed in Tyler this wknd, but kicked things off with the back to school bash up at Where's Rufus Friday Night. I had to go out and support some local music, because honestly, around here it doesn't get the credit it deserves. I Dj at Where's Rufus quite a bit, and they embrace the diverse crowds here in Tyler more than any other venue. One of my high school classmates and rapper Fula performed with the band The Rad. The event was put on by Yodie Promotions. Here's some random pics from when the brewskis began to take hold...
fula wreckin..... + Anayo of Yodie Promotions

Picther...say Cheeese! + Cougar Alert

We were in the house doing some video work, stayed tuned for footage.
The Show turned out great, it was the first night Where's Rufus did 18 and up.
Here's hoping they keep that and the good music comming!

Like I said Sat and Sun. I Djed some weddings untill really late. Monday was a relax day for the most part. Overall a purty chill labor day, what about yours?

I'm Baaaaaccckk, Step inside my Bubble...

Whats up people. I know the title of this is "I'm Back", but I really never went anywhere. Truthfully I just been letting my blog game slip over the past few months. I mean, ya boy stays purty active on Twitter & Facebook, as well as contributing to Infotainment Empire, but I really let my own diary fall by the wayside. Honestly I don't like people all up in my personal bubble, but I've decided to re-commit myself to the blog as therapy and as a sort of checklist of my daily progress. On a serious note, this has been THE HARDEST summer of my life. My father passed away on May 25th, and I've really had to fall back and put things in perspective. I was always the kind of dude to put family first, and never really let many other people inside my heart besides blood. This is part of what made losing the cornerstone of that tough. Luckily I was able to turn to God, my loving Mother, and older brother to get me through the hardest time. My Dad was an unbeliveably driven person, and I always felt like that was one of the numerous traits he passed on to me. It seemed like only a few days after his passing I could hear him telling me to keep moving forward and not give up. I'm so thankful that I was able to share my aspirations and some success with my father before he passed.

This entertainment business is brutal, especially when you have to be the one to make people smile/laugh/dance when it's so hard for you to do it yourself. I've come to realize that it's the burden you bear in this game. In a nutshell I'm a person who belives in pursuing your dreams and doing something you're passionate about. I feel like if you're doing that, you're inspiring and helping others to do the same for themselves. The reality of it is, Waaaaayyy too many people lose sight on those things because of money, circumstance, or just plain fear. By no means do I condem these folks, I just hope that I can provide an escape or give them something to relate to through my music. So last night I found myself back on my knees (for the first time in a while regretably) asking God to give me strength to pursue my dreams and inspire others along the way. I have no idea how my prayers will be answered, but I know If i give up now, I never will. So I say all that to say this, we all go through rough points in life, nobody is exempt, I think the trick is never letting those things become a reason to give up or give in. These are the very moments that define each of us. How will you react?

Alright now get out of my bubble, and go make your dreams happen!

Music Monday B*tches!!!

Hey, so here's a couple nice Dallas, mixtapes you should check out.
You know I wouldnt co-sign if it was the same ol same....

Dallas rap group A.Dd+ released their new mixtape "Power of the Tongue" presented by 808 studios. I'd heard alot about it through the 808 head honchos Rosalinda and J. Rhodes Twitter accounts. For a free download, you can't go wrong with this one.
My fav track thus far is 'Time is Right'
Free Download: A.Dd+: Power of the Tounge

I know the Kixpo is over, but this mixtape is still nice. After checking out Kixpo 2008 tape, I was all amped up to hit the DFW for the event this year. Star Trek Makeover far from Overkill..

So I'll be honest, as a youngin (circa 83), I was never a huge fan of Star Trek. I mean I'd usually change the channel by the time I heard the opening speech. Well the days of watching a shaking screen and hearing Captain Kirk say, "Good God! We're hit!!" from his broke @ss computer chair are long gone. This new Star Trek takes space action flicks to another level. Although I wasn't a fan, I always respected Star Trek as an intelligent Sci-Fi adventure, that was more about brains than braun. I feared that during summer-blockbuster, prequel-happy time of year, the temptation to make an over the top action film would take control. I'm happy to say that's not the case. J. J Abrhams seemed to be able to balance the action and storyline for an enjoyable flick. But let's start with the action. The outer-space shots are simply amazing, I mean, this is what intergalactic battles are supposed to look like. There's no need for imagination here. Also the Enterprise itself gets a massive overhaul. From the long winding hallway shots, to the ill lighting effect throughout the film, you might think you've changed star dates(horrible attempt at Trekkie Humor).
I feel like the movie did a good job of making us understand why James T. Kirk, and Spock are interesting characters. Back in tha day it seemed to just be makeup and an awkward hand gesture to me. Now that I'm older, I can also respect some of the "space jargon" that dominates the dialouge. So if you think you can sleep through the conversations, be prepared to be lost in the plot. The music Score is nice I enjoyed the eye candy in this one as well, Zoe Saldana . I've always had a crush on this chick, and although she isn't as good as in one of my personal faves, Haven, but it'll do. I also like the cameo from my boy Tyler Perry.I mean, tha dudes loaded off his Madea flicks, yet still manages to get his way in a dorky Sci-Fi flick. To say he must be a Trekkie is prolly an understatement. All in all, I really enjoyed this film, A. cuz I didn't have huge expectations, and B. it doesn't compromise for the summer movie rush. I don't think I hafta convince Trekkies to go check this out, but speaking to the general movie going public, I think it's a safe bet for a good time.

Host unlimited photos at slide.com for FREE!
(Pat Pro with Tabi at TXSMC)

So as you can see a few years back I had the pleasure of meeting and chopping it up with D.C's Tabi Bonney. Dude's brought a complete different approach to the game, and now it's paying off. Check out Tabi's Myspace. Dope is his newest album, and I'm helping get the word out down south. Being born in West Africa, Tabi blends minnimal beats and percussive lyrics to make a style all his own. It's east coast hip-hop mixed with a reggae vibe.

Here's one of my fav. Tabi tracks, don't think its on dope tho...still hella smooth!.

Dope is available Now! for Download and Physical purchase

Bun B to realease new UGK album!

Bun B announced there will be a new UGK album released in March.
He hopes the final effort will help solidify the legacy of his partner Pimp C.
I'm all for this, the boys from Port Arthur have been a huge inspiration to me because of their longevity here in Texas. I think this final album will be a great reflection of that. Here's one track that might make the final cut, "Da Games been good to me"

Panacea: The Re-Route

So I been jamming Panacea (K-murdock & Raw Poetic) since 06 when I picked up their Rawkus debut, Ink is my drink. "The Scenic Route" dropped in 07 and It quickly became one of my go-to albums for roadtrips and "country drives".
Although commercial success didnt come with it, many producers took notice to the great album. I just found out there's some remixes coming out entitled "The Re-Route", here's one jewel thanx to tha folks at okayplayer. Walk in the Park (Damu the Fudgemunk rmx)

stop by their Myspace for Info on the full album

Thelonious Therapy

I crawled out of bed this morning to a cold chill. I got prepped to head in for another day in the lab, another day to create something new. Although thatsusually exciting, I found myself weighed down by the burden of trying to be creative when things aren't always going 100%. Of course I don't have time to dissect these feelings, so i decided to listen to some Thelonious Monk. I always like his rigid and erratic style, here's a goood vid, and a better song, Round Bout Midnight.

Thoughts on Today.

Of course today is a big day in American History, as we watched Barack Obama be sworn in as the 44th President. Over the past few days I've heard a certain tone of "We Did It" coming from the media, and even regular citzens. Even when my father called and asked me what this day meant to me, it took me a while to unravel exactly what I thought about things.
Luckily theres a video that really touches on how I feel in the form of a quick concise Youtube post, Enjoy!

Review of "Notorious"

So yesterday I went to check out Notorious, the new movie that focuses on the life of the Brooklyn rapper Biggie Smalls. I listened to quite a bit of biggie coming up, his influence was nationwide by the time I was in middle school. His album Ready to Die dropped in 1994, alongside other classics like Nas' Illmatic, and Outkasts' debut. Biggie's delivery always came across to me as raw, effortless, yet very to the point. Just like Biggie's lyrics, the strong suit of this film is money, b*tches clothes, and luxury.

This flick isn't meant to be a deep character study of Christopher Wallace, as much as a stylized overview of what his life was about. Much like his music, it comes across as a smooth, attractive look into the world of Biggie Smalls.
The Casting is on point, of course starting with Jamal Woolard who potrays Big in the film. He seemed to almost embody the role, and there weren't any parts that looked forced or overplanned.
(Woolard pulled it off as "Biggie")

The few misses for me were acctually the big names,
Angela Basset as Big's mother, and Anthony Mackie. Although they're easily the most recgonizable names, they're performances seemd somewhat flat. I mean Angela Basset did a half @ss attempt at a Jamacian accent, I just wasnt feeling it.

I would like to feel on the chick that played Lil Kim, Nautri Naughton. Let's just say she did her own stunts in this one!! I also found out she's one of the original members of that group 3lw from back in tha day. Lil cease was hella young too, I mean he looks 12 tha entire movie!

The music of course was great, mixing classic bad boy records, with some of Jamal's own covers of songs. Being a studio rat, I wanted a little more on the production side of things. I mean they play the original "Juicy" sample, but they just never really explain more than that.

Overall I give tha movie an ehhhhh (3 out of 5). Like I said the movie looks and feels great, but its really nothing new . It is entertaining for those that followed his career, and hopefully for those that want to know more about Chris Wallace. I think its an admirable look at the life and tragic end to Biggie Smalls.
